In her memoir, McCafferty speaks openly about her own sexuality as well, and the upbringing and cultures of silence which still prevail in Ireland, which made coming out of the closet difficult both personally and professionally. BACIK Ivana Bacik is Reid Professor of Criminal Law, Criminology and Penology at Trinity College Dublin, a practising barrister and former editor of the Irish Criminal Law Journal. Well-known for her campaigning work on human rights and civil liberties, Ivana Bacik was a Labour candidate in Dublin for the European elections 2004. She is author of Kicking and Screaming: Dragging Ireland into the 21st Century. |

| RAYMOND DEANE Raymond Deane is a native of Tuam, Co. Galway and was brought up on Achill Island in Co. Mayo. He is a musical composer and his compositions have been played and recorded worldwide. He was awarded a Doctorate of Music by NUI, Maynooth, in 2004. He is a novelist and essayist as well, and was twice Artistic Director of the RTÉ Living Music Festival. Raymond Deane is also a political activist. He is a founder and present Chairman of the Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign (IPSC). |

| VIVIENNE DICK Vivienne Dick is one of Ireland's premiere experimental filmmakers. She left her native rural Co. Donegal in 1972 for the grit of New York's Lower East Side, where she began a career as one of independent filmmaking's most uncompromising voices. She teaches filmmaking at the Galway Institute of Technology, and has screened her work internationally. Vivienne Dick is currently beginning production on a documentary about Ireland's other voices -- refugees, traveller's and those outside Ireland's mainstream. |

HAND Brian Hand is an artist, curator and writer. He is currently course director of the BA in Fine Art at The Gorey School of Art, Co Wexford and has previously worked for the Arts Council as the Curator of Critical Voices 2. Hand has published commissioned essays on Irish artists including, Anne Tallentire, Noel Sheridan, Colin Darke and Dennis Mc Nullty. Hands most recent exhibition was the group show Dearcadh at Kilmainham Gaol. |

RYAN Orla Ryan is an artist, curator and writer. She currently lectures in art history at the Gorey School of Art, Co Wexford. Her writing has appeared in Circa, Afterimage and Super Umbau. She recently curated Joao Penalva's insatllation R. at Eigse Carlow. Ryan was a contributor to the art books Charley (2002) and Je Vieux (2003). REBECCA WOOLF Rebecca Woolf is Chair of Democrats Abroad, an organisation for Americans living abroad who are involved politically and work within the Democratic Party. As chairperson, she organised the drive to provide voter registration assistance and voting rights to Americans in Ireland.
