Video Diaries
1990 - 1993
with Leslie Singer
These titles represent a series of diaries and journals in video. All
but one of them, The Passion of Jane, is a collaboration with Leslie Singer.
The series began as a casual use of the medium
to hold a conversation in real time and developed into a methodology that seems like essential
video.
The pieces are extemporaneous and unrehearsed and are all edited in camera. The resulting work records not only dialogue, gossip and
commentary, but also the possible structure of a love affair and its improvisational
performance.

These titles represent a series of diaries and journals in video and all
but one of them, The Passion of Jane, is a collaboration with Leslie Singer.
The series began as a casual but purposeful use of the medium as dialogue
and developed into a methodology that seems most suitable to essential
video. The pieces are extemporaneous, unscripted and unrehearsed.
All are edited in-camera and record a shared experience and the creation
of experience. Intentionality developed, or failed to develop, as each
piece was shot. The resulting work records not only dialogue, gossip and
commentary, but also the possible structure of a love affair and its improvisational
performance.
